At the Recycling Database site, you’ll also find ideas for resuing old things or bits of old things, to extend their lives.
However, I believe that trash-into-art projects count as unconsumption, only if the creator sells, gives or other transfers the item from himself to another owner, rather than just keeping it.
I would say that the people behind Replayground do just that.
