Etsy TV

Have you seen this yet? If you follow the whole DIY craft thing, then you know that Etsy is the big online store where many thousands of handmade-thingmakers sell their handmade things. Now Etsy has launched an e-zine, and video “newscast.” I think it’s pretty funny, but what do I know? If you have an opinion, I’d like to hear it.

Further diversion may be found at MKTG Tumblr, and the Consumed Facebook page.

It’s funny, but not funny enough to get me to watch a THIRD show. The newscast tries to be a little over-the-top, but not enough. They have to reinvent the infomercial. Because the idea is to expand the base, get watched obsessively on YouTube and Etsy-member sites. I told them to hire a writer and a break-the-mould TV director. But what do I know?

I’m trying myself to create buzz and endlessly testing – with paper. Here in Paris I created a Carte de Rencontre, a postcard placed in the baskets of the increasingly multiplying “Velibs” – Paris City bicycles. We first used little 1950s kids on trykes. Now we’re doing limited edition (1000) art cards that are perfoated. But the key is: The back of the card is a quick-use Meeting Card for people who eye each other at the bike stations, like each other, cross off a few boxes, scribble their mobile numbers, e-mail addresses and hope to hook up for a bike ride, etc. I call it engagement marketing – on the street level. It’s funny and useful, but we’re still testing it.

Great site, by the way. Found my way here from Coudal.
